Empowering your health journey with compassionate, confidential specialty care

Here’s what you need to know about our PrEP/ PEP/ HIV Specialty Services:

  • What is PrEP? Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication that helps prevent HIV infection in people who are at high risk of exposure to the virus. It is taken daily as a pill or injection and can reduce the risk of acquiring HIV by over 99% when used consistently.
  • What is PEP? PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a combination of anti-HIV medications taken after a possible exposure to the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) to prevent infection.
  • What is HIV? HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that attacks cells that help the body fight infection, making a person more vulnerable to other infections and diseases. It is spread by contact with certain bodily fluids of a person with HIV, most commonly during unprotected sex (sex without a condom or HIV medicine to prevent or treat HIV) or through sharing injection drug equipment.
  • How do I know if I need PrEP? You may need PrRP if you are HIV-negative and engage in any of the following:
    • Sexual partner status: Having a sexual partner who is HIV positive or whose HIV status is unknown.
    • Condom usage: Not consistently using condoms during sex.
    • Recent STI diagnosis: Having been diagnosed with an STI within the past 6 months.
    • Injection drug use: Sharing needles or other drug paraphernalia.
    • High-risk sexual behaviors: Engaging in sex while intoxicated, transactional sex, or having multiple anonymous partners.

Important points to remember:

  • Consult a healthcare provider.
  • Always talk to your doctor to determine if PrEP is right for you based on your individual risk factors.
  • HIV testing is necessary:
  • Before starting PrEP, you need to be tested for HIV and confirm a negative status.
  • Regular monitoring: If you start PrEP, you will need to undergo regular HIV testing and monitoring for potential side effects.

We provide medication assistance, such as Patient Assistance Program enrollment, copay assistance, patient resource navigation, and treatment education.
